Gosh that'd be eerie if it turns out to be these guys knowing they walked right past you and your friends and to have a photograph of it.

The source material here looks to be CCTV cameras, which were probably not posted online.

They were pretty close. The 4chan suspect had a forward-facing white baseball cap. The FBI suspect has a rear-facing white baseball cap. These kinds of minor inaccuracies are fairly common in crowdsourced solutions.
