This man is in prison, likely for life, for murder.

Instead of acknowledge his fault and working towards a better life, he's advocating against the law that put him in prison.

I'm not sure the copyright over his mom's letters is what he should be focused on.

Apparently due to the felony murder rule:

https://www.change.org/p/justice-for-paris-and-victims-of-th...:

> Even though Paris is innocent, they were convicted of murder in the 2nd degree and robbery in the 1st degree, with a sentence of 25 years to life. They have served 20 years, meanwhile the actual killers and their codefendants are free in society.

I have not idea of the actual circumstances of this guy's case, but my understanding is the felony murder rule can lead to some extremely unjust outcomes:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Holle:

> On the early morning of March 10, 2003, after a night of partying, Holle lent his car to a friend and housemate,[2] William Allen, Jr.[5] Allen used the car to drop three men off at the house of Christine Snyder, where they removed a safe containing 1 pound (450 g) of marijuana and $425.[5] During the burglary, one of the men, Charles Miller, Jr., used a shotgun he had found in the house to bludgeon Jessica Snyder to death.[2][5] Holle was 1+1⁄2 miles (2 km) away.[2]

> ...he is now serving a sentence of 25 years at the Marion Correctional Facility after his life without the possibility of parole sentence was commuted by Governor Rick Scott.[2]

It sounds like he _is_ working towards a better life. And his mother's words, which he re-reads regularly for support, are inspiring that effort. Is it not in the interest of that better life that he and others like him should be allowed to keep such correspondence?

I wasn't aware prisoner life and family related topics are out of bounds

Prisoners have time to focus on more than 1 thing. They completed a sociology degree last year.
