You were downvoted, maybe because some people consider all advertising as evil per definition, but ethical advertising is an interesting subject. I made mention of Codefund in a forum discussion we have on the topic:
This really shows the power of money, size and market dominance, and on the consumer side of course the power of the business model of providing 'free' products and services. Convenience, network effects, FOMO, and very little awareness of what the dangers and capabilities of progressing surveillance capitalism now and in the future are, or the impact of (big) tech on society.
There are hopeful trends, but it is a David against Goliath fight, going back and forth and really slowly.
> Licenses that platforms take out cover uploads by their users, as long as they act non-commercially or “don’t generate significant revenues”
Am I reading correctly that when you have a forum (e.g. Discourse) which is non-commercial i.e. for an open community, that any users uploading stuff or quoting article sections are exempt from this regulation (even though the forum is hosted on Discourse servers on a paid plan)?
I have another producthunt-related HN discussion [0] pending right now, about the question whether one should give almost full access to their Twitter account (permission to change profile, ability to post), just to be able to give an upvote to one of the Product Hunt submissions.
